Reproductive Health Specialists, Ltd. offers counseling
services as an integral part of the treatment of infertility. Due
to the psychological as well as physical demands of
treatment, we invite all patients to consider the psychosocial and
emotional ramifications of their reproductive choices.
Counseling services are available to all patients at any time during
the course of treatment. However, all couples considering the use
of the advanced reproductive technologies, and couples planning to use
either donor oocytes, embryos or sperm, will be required to see the
counselor to review the informed consents for these procedures.
It is important, for example, for patients to make thoughtful and
educated choices concerning the disposition of unused cryopreserved
embryos. Patients will also want to consider the similarities and
differences between adoption and oocyte, sperm and embryo donation.
Through counseling, we hope to prepare patients for the course of
treatment and its potential outcome, to raise issues that may not have
been considered, and to anticipate treatment-related stress. If a
decision is made to consider adoption as the next best step to becoming
parents, our counselor can provide a well-informed adoption consultation
with referrals to appropriate resources.
Counseling services are provided by Jude Tanter, MSW, a licensed
clinical social worker (LCSW) with numerous years of experience in the
fields of infertility and adoption. She comes to our office
several days a month to see patients by appointment. You can
schedule an appointment by calling her at Reproductive Health
Specialists, Ltd. at 815/730-1100.
